Website Update (#11):
Raining and blowing in Redding, California!
I am honored to do a reading as guest poet on The New American Dream Show www.theshow.newamericandream.info tonight, March 24, 7-7:15 pm, central time. The show airs every Thursday night. It’s interesting and informative to say the least. Give it a listen if you have the time and inclination. The shows are archived so you can listen at your convenience.
The Battered Suitcase (Vagabondage Press) has interviewed me and posted the piece on their blog: http://vagabondagepress.blogspot.com/2011/03/author-insides-tom-sterner.html
The feature piece at Asian American Times was preempted by the earthquake and tsunami tragedy. It will be available either this week or next as space allows in the newspaper.
Asian American Times http://www.asianamericantimes.us/index.html is funning a feature article on me, mainly in connection with the series of novels, “American Camp: Frail Monsters/Wounded Souls,” specifically “Momma’s Rain” and “Momma’s Fire.” In four weeks or so the editor, Christal Cooper, will feature my artwork, poetry, short stories, and music.
Thanks!

~Pearl, Dreams of Shell~
Throughout the year 2006, I worked closely with a poet/translator editing the works of contemporary poets from Bahrain. Hameed Al Qaed translated the work from Arabic to English then sent each piece to me by email for revision and editing. It was my pleasure to introduce Hameed to my friend, Michael Annis, senior editor of Howling Dog Press. He contracted with Hameed to handle the printing of the first run of the anthology when it was completed in 2007. The following piece was my review and forward to the work.
East meets West in these pages, “The Land Where the Sun Rises, The Land Where the Sun Sets.” These are astral images galloping through my mind as I read and edit the rich and complicated verse of the poets from Bahrain...

Father/Son & Daughter
Tommy and me, Father and Son, performing some sit-down music for Harley Blue's class. She's a preschool teacher. Frantic from the drive, truck broken down, Cinder behaving like a nine month old German Shepherd, 1400 miles to drive back (if we got the truck running), I wondered how I would fit this gig in (mentally and emotionally) but Harley Blue set up a time with her brother for the day before I was to leave. Tommy's the oldest of my two sons, Harley Blue the youngest of three daughters. It was a wonderful experience, performing once more with my son, talking and singing to the Children at the preschool. These were their favorite songs:
Love Is
Sometimes when I’m sleeping,
sometimes I lay awake.
Sometimes I should be dreaming... sometimes...
I take love for granted,
who would ever guess.
It just keeps on moving... love is...
Love is like a wheel, love goes round and round.
It is like a wheel, love goes round and round.
There is time for laughing;
there is time for crying.
There is a time for holding... there is...
Years flow by like water,
carrying us away,
wonder if our love grows... love is...
Love is like a wheel, love goes round and round.
It is like a wheel, love goes round and round and round.
Hold me and forever;
hold me, I am never,
hold me, going to leave you... hold me.
I hear Children laughing;
I hear Children playing.
They are me and mine and... love is...
Love is like a wheel, love goes round and round.
It is like a wheel, love goes round and round and round and round.
Rain Come Down
Rain come down
rain come down down
Every stranger’s face I see
fits into my memory
Children’s smiles especially
take me where I want to be
When there’s too much pain around
I love to hear that tiny sound
music where my heart is bound
making puddles on the ground
Rain come down
rain come down down
It’s so easy then to cry
“It’s not tears, but rain,” I lie
so in the rain I say goodbye
It’s been raining all my life
Love’s a part of you and me
the best of what we’d hope to be
the light we’ve lived our lives to see
to set the brokenhearted free
the laughter and the harmony
Children’s smiles especially
running in the rain with me
chasing rainbows - memory
Rain come down
rain come down down
Rain come down
rain come down down
I wondered what we possibly had in our repertoire to play for these beautiful tiny folks, went back to 1991 when Tommy, Troy, and I wrote "Rain Come Down" and 1995 "Love Is". We had a great time. Harley Blue, thanks for the push!
